The questions that come after feeding.

Sleep, solid foods, going back to work, carrying your baby, and how to parent a person who has opinions now. Six hour-long consults with Ashley Pickett, IBCLC, for the part of the job that starts once feeding is settled.

Who you’ll be with

All six sessions are with Ashley.

Ashley Pickett is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, and every consult on this page is an hour of her time rather than a class or a video. She sees families in Milton and Oakville and across Ontario by video.

If what you need turns out to be feeding help rather than sleep, solids or carrying, she does that too.

From your own sofa

Four of them, virtually.

Each one is a full hour, one to one, on video. Bring your questions and your baby.

Understanding normal infant sleep

60 minutes, virtual · No referral required

Everything you have read has left you worried your baby isn’t sleeping properly, and well-meaning advice has not helped.

We go through what is biologically normal at your baby’s stage, what changes to expect, and what to do if you are ready for a simple change. Anxiety-free sleep for them, and rest for you.

Introduction to solid foods

60 minutes, virtual · No referral required

A baby-led approach, and an answer to the fact that the information out there contradicts itself.

How to tell when your baby is ready, best first foods, textures, timing and amounts, purees or baby-led weaning, preventing fussy eating, and building a good relationship with food.

Anxiety-free parenting, toddlers to teens

60 minutes, virtual · No referral required

What your child actually needs as they grow, and what the way we discipline does to how they feel about themselves.

Positive discipline, tantrums, time outs and separation, hitting and biting. We follow the choices through to adolescence and ask whether they serve the long-term goals you have for your child.

Transitioning back to work

60 minutes, virtual · No referral required

You know your baby’s routine, what they like, how they fall asleep. Somebody else is about to need to know all of it.

How to prepare, how much milk they need while they are in someone else’s care, and whether you have to wean. Highly recommended before the date rather than after it.

In the room with you

Babywearing, hands on.

The one that only works in person, because it is about trying carriers on until one fits.

Babywearing for beginners

60 minutes, Milton office · No referral required

Your baby loves being held and sleeping on your chest, which is normal and good for them, and can still feel like a lot.

Try wraps, slings, mei tais and structured carriers and find what fits you, or bring the carrier you already own and learn to use it properly.

Community Midwives of Halton, 420 Bronte St S, Suite 116, Milton

Babywearing for beginners

60 minutes, Oakville office · No referral required

The same hour, closer to home if Oakville is your side of the map.

Safe carrying so your baby gets the closeness they are asking for and you get your hands back.

Still feeding, and still stuck?

These are for what comes after. If feeding itself is the problem, that is a lactation consult and it is a different hour.
